Bluestem Acupuncture LLC, Our Treatment Approach

Initial Consultation and Treatment
1. When you arrive for your first appointment, we wil begin discussing your concerns, your goals for treatment and your health history. This conversation is vitally important to crafting acupuncture treatments that will be effective and address the root of your symptoms, not just cover them up. Understanding your specific case helps me make the best clinical choices. You will also have plenty of time to ask me questions, for example about how I plan to use Chinese medicine to help you, how acupuncture works, what to expect in terms of follow-up appointments, etc.

2. You will relax on your back on the massage table and I will feel your pulse. Next I will take a few minutes to look at and feel any joints, or sore spots on your body that may be symptomatic for you. Your first treatment will follow, during which time I will use acupuncture needles, or apply gentle pressure on points to stimulate a healing effect. Acupuncture needles are extremely thin, about the thickness of two human hairs. The needles are sterile, individually packaged and disposable. Many people say that they experience a deep state of relaxation and renewal after their treatment.

3. At the conclusion of your session, I often offer a suggestion such as a breathing practice, or a stretch, or possibly a food choice that will reinforce youracupuncture and help you retain the benefits of our session. Many people are enthusiastic to learn that their acupuncture treatment goes beyond needles, to some really helpful, simple innovations that they can practice at home to create more ease for themselves.

Follow-up Acupuncture Treatment: One hour acupuncture session, nutritional information, herb recommendations and lifestyle coaching. Many people feel an effect from their first treatment, and generally plan to receive a treatment once a week for 4-6 weeks to make the changes more long-lasting. The frequency of follow-up appointments will vary from person to person, with the goal being to increase the amount of time that you are doing well between sessions as you learn how to better care for yourself. Many people find that they enjoy receiving regular acupuncture treatments as preventative medicine once they are feeling better and may come in for "tune-ups" a few times a year, or as the seasons change.
